Yes, in many cases. Your chances are higher the sooner you act: when an attacker changes the account email, Instagram usually sends a notice to the previous address with a link to undo the change. It depends on the case. Some accounts are recovered within hours through Instagram’s automated process; reviews of suspended or disabled accounts can take days or several weeks, depending on Meta’s workload. Be wary of anyone who promises an exact timeframe.

It is a method Meta uses to confirm you are the account owner: you record a short video turning your head in several directions and Meta compares it with the photos on the account. According to Meta, the video is not posted on your profile and is deleted after the review.

We only work with the account owner, or with someone who can prove they legally represent them, such as the parent of a minor. For accounts of people who have passed away, Meta has a specific process that lets family members request memorialisation or removal.

Use a unique password you don’t reuse anywhere else, turn on two-factor authentication with an authenticator app, save your backup codes, review connected apps and don’t open links about so-called “copyright violations” or “account verification” that arrive by direct message.
